Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How do I make an appointment?

A: Call our office 219-961-4357 and request to make an appointment.  We will take it from there.

Q: How long is an appointment?

A: Individual sessions with a counselor last approximately 45-50 minutes.  Our support groups last 1.5 hours.

Q: Is what I say confidential?

A: Yes, unless you disclose the intent to bring harm to self or others.

Q: What kind of counseling do you do?

A:The Fair Haven Staff are neither licensed counselors nor licensed therapists.  The suggestions and instruction received should not—and is not encouraged—to be a replacement for professional counseling.

Our goal is to provide you with insights and tools needed to move beyond old, limiting beliefs and behaviors using a process that focuses on mind, body and spirit restoration.

Q: What kind of services are offered?

A: We offer Individual Sessions, Support Groups, Community Education & Outreach and Rape Crisis Advocacy.  For more information, see our Programs Page.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: All of our services are provided to the community free of charge.  We are here to help.

Q: Can I see an Advocate today?

A: If you call and make a request to be seen today, we will make every effort to make that happen.  However, most clients requesting counseling services can be seen within 24 hours.

Q: How long will it take before I feel better?

A: It takes as long as it takes.  Healing is a journey, not a destination.  Here, we take it one step at a time and trust in the process.

Q: I have a friend who needs services.  Can I call and make an appointment for her?

A:  No.  your friend must call us and request services.  You can support her, but let her do the talking.

Q: If my friend calls and makes an appointment, can I come with her?

A: We encourage each client to have a good support system for this journey!  Good for you for being just that.  However, the counseling sessions are for the indivicual seeking services. Our suggestion: give her the encouragement to go and meet her afterwards for coffee!

Q: Do you prescribe medication?

A:  No.  We do not have a psychiatrist on staff.
