Amee was born and raised in Lake County and has lived here her entire life. Northwest Indiana has Amee’s heart and it is a privilege to do the work she does in the place of her greatest highs and greatest lows.
During the fall of Amee’s fifteenth year, Amee was date raped. As a result of this event, Amee learned how to “live life” on the outside by attending
church, laughing, singing solos, and being a leader in youth group, but on the inside, she was filling her life with anything that would take the pain and shame away.
At the age of nineteen, living life become too much and through a strange parade of circumstances, Amee began attending a single’s group at Grace Fellowship Church. Through the love of a seasoned Christian and a Christian counselor Amee told her story for the first time, and in doing so, the chains that held her were slowly being released that had held her prisoner for so many years. The road of healing has not been an easy one, but it is one she is committed to. Another huge healing step that Amee took part in, was during the summer of 2013. Amee went through “Rewriting Your Emotional Script” by Becky Harling. During this journey Amee learned what it means to “live out loud”, not hide from the hard stuff, have a voice and be the woman that God has called her to be. This was an amazing journey.
The single’s group of Grace Fellowship Church was also a success in coupling off many of their members. One coupling took place between Amee and her husband, Shawn. They met the fall of 1994, and were married the fall of 1996. Nine and a half months later they welcomed Keyanna into their lives and three and a half years after that, they completed their family with the addition of their son, Nathan.
In preparation of her position at Fair Haven Center for Women Amee has obtained certification in Biblical Lay Counseling through American Association of Christian Counselors, Sexual Assault Advocate Training through Office of Victims of Crime, and additional certifications in Suicide Assessment, Stress and Trauma Care, and Critical Incident Stress Management through ICISF. Amee knows many more men and women will find healing from their sexual assault through the Beacon of Hope program at Fair Haven Center for Women and is excited to be the Coordinator of the program.
